GL-Rules Approval for the welding of marine structures in accordance with Germanic Lloyd guidelines

The designs are made from a wide range of materials:

  • Construction steel/shipbuilding steel 1.0045 (S355JR), 1.0584 (E36)
  • Fine-grained structural steel 1.8903 (S460NL), 1.8928 (S690QL)
  • CrNi alloys 1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10), 1.4571 (X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2)
  • FeNi alloys 1.3912 (Ni36 – Invar)
  • Aluminium 3.3547 (AlMg4.5Mn0.7)

The following welding techniques are used:

  • Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) MAG – metal active gas welding (135 & 136) and MIG – metal inert gas welding (131)
  • TIG - tungsten inert gas welding (141)
  • SAW – submerged arc welding (12)
  • Stud welding with tip ignition (783)

As an active member of DVS BV Vorpommern (German Welding Society, West Pomeranian section), Formstaal attaches great importance to the training of all staff members. To ensure continuous qualification of welders and operators and in order to meet everyday technical challenges, the company cooperates closely with accredited training centres such as the Welding Techniques Educational and Research Centre, Mecklenburg Western Pomerania.

  • Formstaal employs highly qualified welders and operators in the following areas:
  • Semiautomatic TIG welding (141) of Ni36 (1.3912)
  • MAG welding (135) of fine-grained structural steel S690NL (1.8903) and amagnetic CrNi steel (1.3964)
  • Stud welding with tip ignition (783) on construction steel, CrNi steel and aluminium

As a result, the company is able to cover a wide range of welding tasks and has become a competent partner for its customers.
